This tour starts from Taichung or Chayi HSR Railway station.  if you are travelling with the High Speed train to reach Taichung or Chayi, enjoy our 20% discounted tickets. High speed train from Taipei or Kaohsiung is available and pick up will be - in this case - at the Chiayi HSR Train Station.

 

 

說明 Introduction


Divided by Lalu Island, the Sun Moon Lake scenic area got its name from the unique terrains that look like sun on one side and crescent moon on the other, the east side of the lake resembles a sun while the west side resembles a moon, hence the name.
Crowned as one of the Eight Wonders of Taiwan, the Sun Moon Lake Scenic Area attracts more than six million visits each year.
Sun Moon Lake is the largest body of water in Taiwan and a well-known for its clear, sparkling blue water set against a picturesque mountain backdrop.
Located in Yuchi Township, Nantou County, the area around the Sun Moon Lake is home to the Thao tribe, one of aboriginal tribes of Taiwan. Sun Moon Lake surrounds a tiny island called Lalu reserved for aboriginal religious practices; therefore the public is not allowed to visit the island.

 

The Alishan National Scenic Area is a mountain resort in the Chiayi County, famous for the sunrise and the "cloud ocean", a dense and thick sea of clouds. It is 415 km² in are, the main recreation site is situated at about 2,200 meters above sea level. It includes mountain wilderness, villages, waterfalls, high altitude tea plantations, the Alishan Forest Railway, and several hiking trails. Souvenir shops also sell tasty cookies and pastries flavored with ashitaba (明日葉), a medicinal herb reputed to give long life.

Itinerary

Day 1: Taipei - Alishan

From Taichung: meeting with your English speaking guide driver at your hotel.
From Taipei/Kaohsiung: train from Taipei/Kaoshiung or Kaohsiung to Chiayi with the High Speed train.
Arrival in Chiayi train station and meeting with the English speaking guide. 
Transfer by private car or van to Alishan. On the way to Alishan, y
our guide will brief you on the distance and the main spots, he/she will suggest the best options to visit the area considering the weather and your needs. 

On the way to Alishan; stop in some beautiful viewpoints and at the Elephant mountain national Scenic area to learn about tea culture and magnificent view.
Your guide will also suggest some stops along the road; there are several train stations with small villages and old street markets as well as stunning plantations tea.
Lunch on the way (not included in the quotation). Your tour guide will suggest some places on the way.
Dinner free not included.

Day 2: Alishan - Sun Moon Lake

Early in the morning you will take the Alishan Mountain Railway to Zhushan Station and witness one of the famous sunrises. (Alishan train tickets not included, please pay for your guide.)

With the guide you will then have a walk at the Alishan Forest Recreation Area and meet the thousands year old Taiwan cypress tree.
Back to the hotel and breakfast.

Late in the morning transfer by private van to Sun Moon Lake, stop at several spots learning about the mountain culture in Taiwan. As in the first day, 
your guide will brief you on the distances and the places you might want to visit considering the weather and your needs. 

Check in at the hotel ain Sun Moon lake and later take a boat ride to Xuanguang Temple or do cycling around the top ten cycling route chosen by CNN or take the Gondola to the top of the hill and enjoy the magnificent view. (No tickets are included, to be paid also for the guide, we will choose to do the activities according to the arrival time. Some of them will be done in the next morning.)

Day 3: Sun Moon Lake - Chiayi

Breakfast at the hotel.
In the morning continue to visit the area of Sun Moon Lake.
Lunch free. After Lunch transfer by car to Chiayi train station.
HSR Train to Taipei, Kaoshiung or other destinations (time to be defined)
Transfer to Taichung: Included with the car/Van

Activities in Sun Moon lake can be chosen from the list below or you can just relax and enjoy the quiet atmosphere of Sun Moon Lake!


Optional activities: (not included in the quotation)

► Cycle round one of the best bike paths in the world: It is about 30 km with hills and will take 3-4 hours with stops at few of the attractions along the way. A local guide will follow you and show the paths.
►Cable car overlooking the lake: On a good day you can enjoy a stunning views of the lake with the trip taking about 7 minutes each way, however in peak times the wait can be hours.
► Formosan Aboriginal Cultural Village;
►Boat tour (Shueishe, Ita Thao and Xuanguang Temple piers)
►Carton King, where everything from utensils to furniture are made from carton boxes.
► Visit Ita Thao: is the origin of Thao people; it is believed that their ancestors, originally from Alishan, chased a white deer to a faraway lake where they found an abundance of fish. They returned to their homeland, brought the whole tribe, and decided to settle down at Sun Moon Lake, as we call it today. Although tribal life is almost extinct now, a visit to Ita Thao allows you to experience the aboriginal culture and you get to taste delicious aboriginal food too.
► Antique Assam Tea Farm: Shuili Snake Kiln is the town where remains the eldest tradition of kiln-making. There is a biggest kiln work which is in the Guinness Book of Records by the size of 6.68 meters.
