Tamsui or Damshui is a sea-side district in New Taipei City in northern Taiwan. It is named after the Tamsui River; the name means "fresh water". The city is popular among the resident of Taipei thanks also to the famous sunset you can watch almost every evening. This historic town - originally home to Formosan indigenous peoples, next settled by the Spanish, expelled then by the Dutch - quickly became a popular destination when the MRT line was extended here in 1998.
Damshui is today a vibrant place to spend an afternoon strolling around, eating some nice food and waiting for the sunset!
Historical spots include Danshui Mackay Hospital, Customs Officer's Residence, Aletheia University, and Fort San Domingo.
Our English/Italian/French/Spanish*-speaking guides and tour leaders will be happy to share their knowledge of the places.
