What is an Undergraduate Foundation Program?
An Undergraduate Foundation Program is a one-year (3 term) program, specifically designed for international students who want to study abroad, which makes it easy for students to enter into a university. As usual, these students will study 3-4 subjects (this depends on their field of interest, their intended progression degree and their level of English language). For the universities is the level of English language the most important one.
Studying a foundation course will help you to get the right level of qualifications and skills to pursue a degree at university - it will also increase your level of English.
It is a good alternative if the student does not have the qualifications for immediate entry to a degree course. Foundation Studies may be different from school to school, but in general, the course will take one year to complete and divided into subject streams, such as business or science, based on the student's choice of undergraduate course.

A foundation year gives you the chance to experience studying before fully committing, a sort of "try before you buy". Going to university is a big step. A foundation year is a step into the world of higher education, particularly if you don't have the right qualifications to go straight onto a degree programme.
Foundation year or Foundation Degree?
A foundation year is not the same as a foundation degree.
A foundation year gives you access onto a degree course, whereas a foundation degree is a qualification equivalent to two years of a three-year degree. Whereas a foundation year is designed to take you straight on to a degree course, a foundation degree is a qualification in itself, equivalent to two years of university.
