Penghu Island

Penghu Island

The Penghu or Pescadores Islands are an archipelago of almost 70 islands and islets in the Taiwan Strait between mainland China and Taiwan, covering an area of 141 square kilometers (54 sq mi).
Most of the islands are inhabited.
The major city is Magong, located on the largest island, which is also named Penghu.
Magong is reachable by flight from Taipei, Taichung, Jiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung and Jinmen Island.

Fly is the fastest way to reach Penghu ( it's about 20 minutes flight ) but you might need some help to book it because it's often fully booked ... ( and the websites are in Chinese ... !).

During the summer months, you can also take the ferry from Kaohsiung which takes 5 hours and 5 minutes. The fastest way is the ferry from Budai Port of Chiayi to Penghu; the traveling time is only 90 minutes.
This service may not be available every day and sailing times are subject to change according to the season.

The Penghu Islands has a rich history of piracy, imperialism and colonization, temples and traditional homes, along with the rich natural landscape.

" There’s a pop classic in Taiwan called “Grandma’s Penghu Bay.” The lyrics speak of the gentle evening breezes that waft over Penghu Bay, the white-capped breakers and sundrenched beaches, and of course the sea of blue, so blue. The Penghu Islands attract tens of thousands of tourists annually, especially during the Ocean Fireworks Festival, and most can’t help but start singing “Grandma’s Penghu Bay” to themselves."

Since 2003, the year the Penghu Ocean Fireworks Festival was held for the first time. This festival has become a tradition in Penghu over the last decade.
The festival will be from Monday to Thursday, from April to June.
Additional surprise during this period!!!

說明 Introduction

The outlying Taiwanese archipelago of Penghu officially obtained its certificate of membership in the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club.

With over 300 kilometers of coastline, Penghu offers several beaches. Traveling with motorcycle is the best way to find the ideal spot to relax.

Most popular is Shanshui beach (near Makung) which features a beautiful white sand coastline.
Aimen is Penghu's longest beach, Neian is popular for it's shallow water Pengpeng Beach is an area of offshore sand bars created by deposition between Naioyu and Yuanbeiyu, seasonal winds change the actual location of the beach at different times of the year. It took nine years before enough sand was deposited to make Pengpeng Beach.

Penghu flights and accomodation

Penghu is very well known among the Taiwanese as an "easy destination to reach" for a weekend out, far from the cities.
Therfore flights are often fully booked in the weekend and, unless you speak and read Mandarin, it will be quite difficult to book the flights.
The choice of B&B and homestay is illimited, but let us suggest you the ones we have liked the most.
If you are looking for a "luxury" property ... Penghu is not ready yet, but there are 3 main international hotels we can offer, among them the Four Point Sheraton is a very good choice.

Flights are from Taipei ( Songshan ), Taichung and Kaohsiung airports.
