Hotel Como Uma Paro: luxury

Hotel Como Uma Paro: luxury

COMO Uma Paro is an intimate, rural hotel in Bhutan, a landlocked Himalayan Kingdom where religion and nature have come together in a compelling Buddhist culture. This has given rise to names for Bhutan such as ‘hidden treasure’ or ‘the last Shangri-La'.

A stay at COMO Uma Paro is about discovering the essence of Bhutan—its culture, religion and landscape. Designed to give unparalleled access to the country while simplifying logistics, we offer guides and guided adventures to allow guests to explore Bhutan by foot, bike, helicopter or 4WD.

COMO Uma Paro, is an intimate, 29-room resort featuring the most exclusive private villas in Bhutan with an enviable location in the Paro Valley. This puts you within striking distance of the country’s great cultural landmarks. The style combines local artisanship with COMO’s contemporary style, while activities range from yoga to Himalayan camping adventures.

ACCOMMODATION

The nine private villas and 20 luxury rooms combine the colourful accents of traditional Bhutanese craftsmanship with the clean-lined contemporary design for which COMO Hotels and Resorts are known. The result is a luxury resort with a fresh, original look that feels sleek even as it recognises COMO Uma Paro’s cultural context.

FOREST VIEW ROOMS

At our Paro luxury hotel, each double room overlooks the pine forests surrounding the resort, while traditional hand-painted Bhutanese designs decorate the walls. There is a pretty bathroom with a combined shower-bathtub.

VALLEY VIEW ROOMS

Among Bhutan luxury hotels, few have Paro Valley views like this. Larger than our Forest View Rooms, these deluxe accommodations also have a juliet balcony that opens up to paranomic views of the Paro Valley, a bathtub and separate showerstall.

COMO SUITES

These oversized suites have separate dining, sitting and study areas as well as a kitchenette. The sophisticated, residential feel is why the COMO Suites are popular with those on a Bhutan honeymoon. In addition, views from the king-size bed open up to 180-degree spreads of the Paro Valley.

Note: COMO suites can be interconnected with a Valley View Twin Room to make a two-bedroom suite for families.

ONE-BEDROOM VILLAS

Among Paro luxury hotels, these oversized freestanding villas stand out because of the large living area replete with Bhutanese Bukhari woodburning stove, a kitchen with a staff entrance and to top it all, a private room for spa treatments. There is an atmospheric outdoor seating area overlooking the pine forests while from the bathtub, there are more dramatic Paro Valley views.

COMO VILLA

The stately COMO Villa is our two-bedroom headline suite. A large living area opens up to panoramic views of the Paro Valley, while an alfresco hot stone bathtub and an open-air courtyard with fire pit tempt you to cosy up outside whatever the Himalayan weather. Back indoors, a spa treatment room means you have very little reason to leave your private domain. There is a full kitchen, a dining area seating eight, and numerous one-off design details and antiques that instill this villa with a strong sense of Bhutanese culture.

DINING AND CUISINE At COMO Uma Paro, much of their product come from their own organic kitchen garden, which we maintain in partnership with local farmers from the Paro Valley, affording us a bounty of fresh and vital ingredients.

Their international dishes, too, are well regarded—Bhutan’s royal family regularly make this their Paro restaurant of choice — along with specialties from neighbouring India.

BUKHARI Bukhari is our award winning restaurant at COMO Uma Paro — named for the traditional Bhutanese fireplace that forms a dramatic centrepiece to its circular, pavilion-style design. Lunch dishes tend more towards international comfort food, while dinner is gastronomic—a rare fine-dining treat in the Paro Valley. Menus are based on seasonal, local produce sourced by Executive Chef Arsa Made , who delivers both Bhutanese and international dishes with strong flavours and serious finesse.

UMA BAR Adjacent to Bukhari, our relaxed Uma Bar provides all-day dining and refreshments from 11am. The ideal place to enjoy morning coffee, an early evening cocktail or a drink from the extensive wine list, our expert team can also whizz up a revitalising non-alcoholic smoothie or fruit juice. Serving an all-day dining menu that incorporates healthful COMO Shambhala Cuisine, the Uma Bar is also a welcoming space for lunch or supper and can be booked out for a private gathering of up to 20 people with a VIP set dinner menu.

COMO SHAMBHALA CUISINE Designed to maximise energy and wellbeing with the use of nutritionally rich foods, our COMO Shambhala Cuisine has always been some of our most popular at COMO Uma Paro. The strong flavours and sophisticated techniques make these dishes stand apart, while the sourcing of ingredients—in part from our organic kitchen garden—ensures the taste of freshness.

IN-ROOM DINING At our luxury hotel in Bhutan, In-Room Dining menus—available until 10pm daily—include healthy salads, indulgent desserts, kids meals, Himalayan dumplings (‘momos’) and familiar western-style comfort options like wraps and pasta dishes.
